Double-Deck Elevator

The double-deck elevator, a high-capacity transport system, operates two vertically connected elevator cars in one hoistway. This is a next-generation elevator that can improve space efficiency (increase in net area), generate more rent income and reduce construction costs by decreasing required hoistways.

3 Modes of Double-Deck System Operation

Any of the three modes (Exclusive, Core and Free Modes) of elevator operation can be selected depending on characteristics of the building, such as foot traffic.

Exclusive Mode

The mode under which the upper
elevator car stops only at
even-numbered floors while the
lower car stops only at
odd-numbered ones

Core Mode

The mode under which both upper
and lower elevator cars stop at
designated floors

Free Mode

The mode under which both upper
and lower elevator cars stop at every
floor except for the lowest floor for an
upper car and the highest floor for a
lower car
